Korean Festival Remembers Forgotten War Vets 60th Anniversary
Korean War's Midwest Commemoration with Department of Defense
CHICAGO (August 13, 2012) The 17th Annual Chicago Korean Festival in partnership with the Department of Defense (DoD) will
pay a special tribute to veterans of the Korean War with a Wreath Honoring Ceremony to commemorate the 60th Anniversary at
3200 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.
It is a great honor to partner with the DoD and give recognition particularly this 60th year to our vets, said Chicago Korean Festival
Committee Chairperson Jason Noh. Koreans have overcome many barriers. We want articulate that message to our future
generations that we can overcome anything with persistence and endurance by the strength of the community.
The Chicago Korean Festival committee will also recognize Illinois State and Local Representatives for their continued support of the
festival and community during the opening ceremony. Governor Pat Quinn, Cook County Clerk Dorothy Brown, and Alderman Margaret
Laurino have made a commitment to partake.
The Chicago Korean Festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 18-19, between 12:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m, in the
Albany Park neighborhood at the 3200 block of Bryn Mawr Avenue. The colorful event brings thousands in attendance to share the
Korean culture and heritage through Korean food, live musical performances, traditional and modern fashion shows. This years
festival will host a B-Boy (breakdancing) Battle, 5K Race sponsored by Lutheran GeneralHospitaland the very anticipated karaoke
contest. The popular Ssirreum Tournament (native form of Korean wrestling) will take place at Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
This year marks a very special time said Operation and Embassy/Allied Liaison Officer, Lt. Col. Robert Ruffolo. We are overjoyed by
this day and the timing to give these Veterans the appropriate thank you could not be better

The DoD Commemorative Committee was directed by Congress in 2011 to honor those who served from 1950-1953. July 27, 2012

The Commemorative Committee was directed by Congress to honor those servicemen who served from 1950-1953 and 2012 marks
the 59th Anniversary of the Armistice of the Korean War, which was signed on July 27, 1953. The Department of Defense 60th
Anniversary of the Korean War Commemoration Committee, authorized in the 2011 Defense Authorization Bill, is dedicated to
thanking and honoring all the Veterans of the Korean War, their families, and especially those who lost loved ones in that war.
